Our Beach Horse Rides
We have 2 rides daily - a morning ride and an afternoon ride - and the actual riding time for each is approximately 2.5 hours.
- Morning Ride: Pick ups commence in Port Douglas at 7:50am. If self driving you will need to be at our stables by 8:20am. The ride returns at approximately 11:30am, having you back at your Port Douglas accommodation by 12:15pm.
- Afternoon Ride: Pick ups commence in Port Douglas at 1:45pm. If self driving you will need to be at our stables by 2:20pm. The ride returns at approximately 5:30pm, having you back at your Port Douglas accommodation by 6:15pm.
You are provided with boots, helmets and appropriate clothing (if required), and we will allocate you a horse to suit your level of riding experience.
We supply water bottles on the ride and an assortment of soft drinks on your return.
Maximum group size is 15 and we follow a ratio of one guide to every six riders. Once at the beach the group is broken up into smaller groups according to levels of riding experience. This is to ensure that the experienced riders are given the freedom to go for a really good canter along the beach and the beginner riders are given further tuition and guidance to make their riding experience as enjoyable as possible.
The Ride
We commence with a comprehensive safety briefing and instructions covering horse riding tuition.
Then we set off for a scenic grassy headland on the way to beautiful Wonga Beach, this will take approximately 15 minutes. Upon arrival at the beach, we will break the group up into smaller groups according to riding experience. The experienced riders will go ahead and canter their horses, whilst intermediate and beginner riders will be provided with further tuition to trot their horses along the beach. If you would prefer just to walk and take a leisurely stroll along the beach, that is fine too!

We regroup at the northern end of the beach where we will stop and have a drink and for those who have their camera's, we can take your photo. This is a very scenic spot as we overlook Snapper Island and you can see the mouth of the Daintree River in the distance.
We then make our way back along the beach to the entrance of our Rainforest trail. You will enjoy the coolness and peacefulness of this pristine rainforest as your horse makes it way along the narrow path and through some of the world's oldest rainforest. In the "wet" season we have some seasonal creeks to cross, which make for some added adventure!
Some of the wildlife you may be lucky enough to spot during your ride can include Shovel Nose Rays swimming in the shallows offshore, Jumping Cod (Wonga Beach is famous for these fish), Dolphins, Scrub Fowl and their amazing nests as we journey through the rainforest), Scrub Pythons (which are definitely not harmful), Goanna's, the bright blue Ulysses Butterfly or the metallic green Cairns Birdwing Butterfly, Kookaburra's and Kingfishers to name a few.
Exclusive Horseriding Tours
If you would prefer not to join a scheduled Horseriding tour, why not spoil yourself and enjoy a private ride. We require a minimum of 2 passengers for the private ride and you will be allocated with your own guide.
There are two options - a 2 hour ride which follows the same route as our scheduled rides (Beach and Rainforest) or a 1 hour ride which just does the beach component.
Timings are flexible with the private rides, so please contact us for further information.
